Emily Rice (b. 2002) is a mixed media artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. She completed Bachelors in Fine Art from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2024 (graduates ceremony, March 2025).

Her practice explores the delicate yet powerful structure of vulnerability, examining the balance between fragility and strength. Working primarily with repurposed textiles, scrap fabric, and plaster, she manipulates and transforms materials to create new textures and interpretations.

Rooted in process-led experimentation and play, her work centres on the material and tactile qualities of fabric, using transformation as a method of reflection and growth. Through this approach, she investigates how vulnerability can function as a state of resilience, inviting viewers to reconsider fragility as a source of strength.
