My practice investigates vulnerability as a lived and embodied condition, exploring both human understanding and the potential to reframe societal stigmas around weakness. I engage fragility as an active, generative state, considering how embracing vulnerability—physically and psychologically—can deepen connections to self and others.
Fabrics and textiles are central to my work, reflecting the complexities of being human. They resist and yield, stretch and unravel, demanding patience and attentiveness. I approach them through touch rather than sight, allowing their behaviour and histories to guide my process. Some collapse under tension, others endure; some fray into new textures, while others resist transformation. Responding to these qualities, I acknowledge both the material’s and my own limitations while nurturing new forms. Fabric becomes a vessel that records touch, time, and bodily engagement, intertwining physical and emotional qualities.
Plaster acts as a counterpoint to textile softness, capturing and suspending form between fragility and strength. Fluid when wet, brittle when dry, it preserves traces of touch, gesture, and time, where control and surrender coexist.
Writing and poetry occasionally emerge alongside materials as another tactile process, holding what cannot be resolved through form alone. Language allows breaks, silences, and fractures where vulnerability can surface without explanation, becoming both reflection and extension of the work.
Together, fabric, plaster, and language construct spaces where fragility is not concealed but held. The work sustains vulnerability rather than resolving it, inviting encounters with tension, care, and restraint, where cracks are embraced as sites of strength, transformation, and becoming.
